Next Kraftwerke expands cooperation with ju:niz Energy and markets SMAREG 14 battery energy storage system

Starting October 1, Next Kraftwerke markets ju:niz Energy’s large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) SMAREG 14 under a seven-year tolling agreement. SMAREG 14 has a power output of 10 MW and a storage capacity of 20 MWh.

Since the end of 2025, Next Kraftwerke has been successfully optimising SMAREG 12 in short-term power and ancillary services markets while also assuming balancing group responsibility. With the addition of SMAREG 14, Next Kraftwerke continues its successful partnership with ju:niz Energy and further expands its battery portfolio.

Through a cooperation between Next Kraftwerke and Shell Energy Europe Limited, the contractual model offers ju:niz Energy predictable revenues through a fixed remuneration structure. At the same time, a portion of the storage capacity remains linked to energy market developments, enabling the operator to benefit from market opportunities.
